Back to the grind

School started a few weeks ago and I really wasn't ready for it to yet again.  I know alot of moms that are more than ready and I was always appauled by this but I have to say by Aug 1 I was beginning to understand it alittle bit.  With that being said I still missed my big guy being gone all day.  He did really well and being in the same class as his best buddy certainly helped.  He is now in the full swing of it and adjusting well.  Sophia stated to a new PreK program as we were not quite ready to send her to kindergarten and she is LOVING it.  She goes 5 days a week in the morning and they have art, music, chapel, library and gym.   She skips out the door excitedly each morning which makes this momma oh so happy!  Ava will start next week 2 mornings a week and we will see how that goes.  She has made comments like "why do I have to go to that scary school?"  "you will stay with me right Mommy?"  Ugg, the only reason I enrolled her this year is because she screamed every time we left Sophie last year and she did not get to stay.  We'll see, maybe she'll surprise me!!

So happy to go to school!
Sophia is 5 years, preK.

Alex, 1st grade, 7 years old!

Her best buds are in her class, that might be part of the passion for school!

Now that we are getting in the groove I am on a mission to make things run smoothly....is there such a thing?  I have surveyed many blogs and friends on their ways to get their kids to do chores and how they "reward" them.  I know not only for the kids but for myself I have to keep it simple or we won't keep it up.  This is an idea from none other than pinterest but adapted to our needs.  I also made a list of our morning routine and that has helped significantly with making them aware of what is expected each morning before they can have time to watch TV or play before we leave for school.

It hangs on the door and is a good visual for them.

Also to back track...Sophia is finishing up her cheer class from this summer and thoroughly enjoyed it.  She has learned so much and we hope to get back to it once soccer is over.

20 years...really?

I had my 20 year class reunion this past weekend.  We had so much fun.  My class was pretty tight knit and I have about 10 or so friends that I still see on a regular basis or at least talk to since they are so far away.  We started out Friday night at my friend Erica's parents' house and had a great time just hanging out.  I didn't get home until 3:15.  There was alot of story telling and gabbing going on!  Saturday, a few friends, spouses and their kiddos came here to swim.  This just makes me realize how drastic our lives have changed and how much I miss seeing all these people on a regular basis!  Then Saturday night we enjoyed our reunion at the Country Club.  We had an awesome turnout and danced the night away.  Way to go WHS class of '92...you still rock!
One of my dearest friends, Casey Blake.

4 silly husbands.  They are fun boys!

One of my best friends that still lives in town, Stephanie Garland.

The wild and crazy class of 92!  See ya in 5 years.

Small summer project

Ugg, 1 week left of summer break and I really haven't accomplished much.  Most of my outdoor projects have been scraped due to the high heat, drought and my lack of motivation.  I did, however, redo a bookcase that my grandmother had given me a few years ago.  It was a dark stain and with my dark house I thought a nice pop of color in the hallway would be beneficial.  I really am pretty happy with how it turned out.  I debated on adding new hardware but the original knobs look pretty nice.  I am now debating on sanding for the distressed look but haven't decided.  I just sanded it instead of priming so I would have that stain to show through in distressing.

Alex turns 7!

Enjoying his new 3DS

This is really hard to accept!  Being my oldest, I remember my pregnancy, birth and all of his firsts so vividly.  He has always had a sweet disposition.  He is smiley, tender-hearted, fun, silly and a smart little guy! He has so much compassion for others and really is a friend to everyone he meets.  (At least kids, he is really shy around adults).  He picks up new things so easily, like his Dad, and is so quick in math.  He loves art class and to draw at home.  He really does some good drawings like his Grammie.  I'm seeing a trend that he hasn't gotten any cool qualities from me!  I can't tell you how many times I watch him doing things, engaging with his classmates or friends or just sitting and playing and I tear up at what a neat little person he is!  He approaches life cautiously but then does it whole-heartedly and accels!  He makes me nothing but proud and I know he is destined for great things.  I thank the most gracious God everyday for my 3 blessings and how cool they are!

He weighs 52lbs and is 49.5 inches

He wears a size 7 in most things and size 1 shoe.

He will be starting 1st grade!!!!!

My grandmother, an inspiration to us all!

My grandmother, Anna Clark Brewer, is such a beautiful woman.  She is my inspiration, my cheerleader, my supporter, my spiritual leader and just all the things a grandmother should be.  She would snuggle me, fix any bump or scratch as a child and all the harder ones as I got older.  She could always say so much without saying a word.  She taught me that love is what gets us through.  She is so strong and so loyal.  She lost my grandfather 5 years ago and still misses him everyday.  They were a picture of marriage.  This past June she turned 90.  She still lives at home alone, she drives occasionally, she travels 5 hours to visit my family, she gets out into her yard and does alittle gardening and is overall is in good health!  I love her soooooo much, she has touched and influenced my life in so many ways.  My kids adore her and she still makes every effort to get down on the floor and play with them.  They talk about her alot and get so excited when she visits.

We had a 90th birthday party for her which included my 2 cousins, my parents, aunt, uncle, my dad's cousin (who is very close with my grandmother) and all of the great grandkids.  She was super happy to have all of her ducklings there!

Isn't she beautiful?

Here great-grandbabies(Alex, Christian, Ava, Grandma, Lauren, Sophia,
Kayla, Ethan, and Sara)
